Organic compost
HIGH QUALITY
We grow our mushrooms on organic compost from our compost plant in Broekhuizen. We use chicken manure exclusively from organic poultry farming, organic straw and natural gypsum.
A reputable laboratory analyses these raw materials weekly to guarantee our quality standards.
Heereco compost BV exports organic compost to other growers in Western Europe.
Growing mushrooms takes approximately 4 to 6 weeks, depending on supply, demand and the grower’s wishes. Compost spends approximately 5 weeks at the composting facility before being sent to mushroom farms. The preparation and mixing of raw material is repeated weekly, so that organic mushrooms are available weekly all year round.
As soon as we have harvested our organic mushrooms, we remove the organic compost from the growing rooms and send it to organic arable farmers, among others. They use this organic compost (champost) as fertiliser for their fields.

Clean raw materials
This is a textbook example of agriculture that is at once circular and sustainable: waste materials from arable and poultry farming are used to make new raw materials suitable for organic mushroom growing and these raw materials are returned to organic arable farming once the growing process is complete.
How circular is that!?
